Early Life and Education

Wilson Scott Berg was born on December 19, 1875, in St. Louis, Missouri. He showed a passion for architecture at a young age, and after graduating from high school, he enrolled at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). During his time at MIT, Berg excelled in his studies and was awarded the Rotch Traveling Scholarship, which allowed him to spend two years studying architecture in Europe.

Architectural Career

After returning from Europe, Berg began his architectural career in Chicago, Illinois. He joined the firm of Holabird & Roche, where he worked on the design of several prominent buildings, including the Reliance Building and the Carbide & Carbon Building. In 1911, Berg left Holabird & Roche to start his own firm, Wilson Scott Berg & Associates.

Berg's architectural style was influenced by both the Beaux-Arts and Art Deco movements. He was known for his use of bold geometric forms, intricate detailing, and innovative materials. One of his most famous works is the Tribune Tower in Chicago, which was completed in 1925.

The Tribune Tower is a 46-story skyscraper located in the heart of Chicago's Magnificent Mile. It was designed by Berg as the headquarters for the Chicago Tribune newspaper. The tower is a masterpiece of Art Deco architecture, with its distinctive setbacks, geometric ornamentation, and iconic clock tower.
