A Young Woman Sitting On A Bench In A Park, Looking Thoughtful. Label Me: My Journey Towards An Autism Diagnosis

I was always a bit different. I didn't like loud noises or bright lights. I had trouble making friends and understanding social cues. I was always the odd one out.

As I got older, my differences became more pronounced. I struggled in school, especially in math and science. I was bullied by my classmates and I felt like I didn't belong.

I went to see a therapist, who diagnosed me with depression and anxiety. But the medication didn't help and I still felt like something was wrong.

Finally, when I was 25, I went to see a psychiatrist who specializes in autism. He diagnosed me with autism spectrum disorder (ASD).

It was a relief to finally have a diagnosis. It explained why I had always been different. It also gave me a sense of hope. I knew that there were other people like me and that I wasn't alone.

Getting an autism diagnosis was a long and winding road, but it was worth it in the end. I finally understand why I am the way I am, and I can now embrace my strengths and weaknesses.

My Strengths

  1. I am a creative thinker.
  2. I am a loyal friend.
  3. I am passionate about my interests.
  4. I am a hard worker.
  5. I am a survivor.

My Weaknesses

  1. I am sensitive to sensory input.
  2. I have difficulty with social interactions.
  3. I am rigid in my thinking.
  4. I am prone to anxiety and depression.
  5. I have difficulty with change.

Getting an autism diagnosis has been a life-changing experience. It has helped me to understand myself better and to accept my differences. It has also given me the confidence to pursue my dreams and to live a full and happy life.
