A Difficult Start

Mouton was born in 1948 in a small town in South Africa. Her father was a farmer, and her mother was a schoolteacher. Mouton grew up in a poor family, and she had to work hard to achieve her goals. She attended the University of Pretoria, where she studied economics and accounting.

After graduating from university, Mouton got a job as a junior accountant at a small food retail company. She quickly rose through the ranks, and within a few years she was managing a number of stores. However, in 1980, she was fired from her job.

Starting Over

Being fired was a major setback for Mouton, but she was determined to not let it define her. She decided to start her own business, and with the help of her husband, she opened a small grocery store in Cape Town.

Mouton's grocery store was an instant success. She quickly expanded her business, and within a few years she had a chain of stores. In 1990, she merged her business with Shoprite, which was then a small food retailer with only a few stores. Under Mouton's leadership, Shoprite has grown into a multi-billion dollar company with over 2,000 stores in 15 countries.

A Successful Entrepreneur

Mouton is a highly successful entrepreneur. She has been recognized for her achievements with numerous awards, including the Forbes Woman Africa Lifetime Achievement Award in 2017. She is also a role model for other women in business. Mouton is passionate about empowering women, and she has established a number of initiatives to help women achieve their goals.
