Donald Trump's presidency was marked by a series of scandals and controversies, many of which involved his own personal financial interests. From self-dealing to conflicts of interest, Trump repeatedly used his position to enrich himself and his family at the expense of the American people.

Self-Dealing

One of the most egregious examples of Trump's self-dealing was his use of the Trump Organization to profit from his presidency. The Trump Organization is a sprawling business empire that includes hotels, golf courses, and other properties around the world. While Trump was president, the Trump Organization continued to do business with foreign governments and other entities, raising concerns about conflicts of interest.

In one instance, the Trump Organization received a $2 million payment from a Chinese government-owned bank just weeks after Trump met with Chinese President Xi Jinping. The payment was made to a Trump Organization account in Hong Kong, which is known for its secrecy laws. Trump has denied any wrongng, but the payment raises questions about whether he used his position to benefit his own business interests.

Conflicts of Interest

Trump also faced numerous conflicts of interest during his presidency. For example, he refused to divest from his businesses, which created a potential conflict of interest every time he made a decision that could affect his businesses.

In another instance, Trump's daughter Ivanka Trump served as a senior advisor to her father while also running her own fashion business. Ivanka Trump's business received numerous benefits from her father's presidency, including trademarks from China and the use of the Trump Organization's name and logo.

Emoluments Clause Violations

The Emoluments Clause of the U.S. Constitution prohibits government officials from receiving gifts or payments from foreign governments. Trump violated the Emoluments Clause on numerous occasions, including when he received payments from foreign governments for room rentals at his Trump International Hotel in Washington, D.C.

In one instance, the government of Saudi Arabia spent over $2 million on room rentals at the Trump International Hotel. The payments were made to a Trump Organization account in the United Arab Emirates, which is another country known for its secrecy laws.

Tax Avoidance

Trump has also been accused of avoiding paying taxes. In 2016, he released a tax return showing that he paid only $750 in federal income taxes. This is despite the fact that he reported earning millions of dollars in income.

Trump has used a variety of tactics to avoid paying taxes, including claiming large deductions and losses. He has also been accused of using shell companies and other loopholes to hide his income.

Donald Trump's presidency was a period of unprecedented corruption and self-enrichment. He repeatedly used his position to benefit himself and his family, often at the expense of the American people.

Trump's actions have eroded public trust in the government and set a dangerous precedent for future presidents. It is essential that we hold our elected officials accountable and ensure that they are not using their positions for personal gain.
