In 1934, Mises was forced to leave Austria due to the rise of Nazism. He moved to Switzerland, where he taught at the University of Geneva for several years. In 1940, he moved to the United States, where he taught at the New York University School of Law.

Mises continued to write and publish throughout his career. His most famous work, Human Action, was published in 1949. Mises died in New York City on October 10, 1973.
