Duncan James A Pima Remembers Duncan James

Duncan James, a beloved member of the Pima community, passed away peacefully on January 10, 2023, at the age of 85. He leaves behind a legacy of leadership and community service that will continue to inspire generations to come.

Duncan was born in Pima on October 12, 1937. He attended Pima High School, where he excelled in academics and athletics. After graduating, he went on to earn a bachelor's degree in education from Arizona State University and a master's degree in educational administration from the University of Arizona.

Duncan began his career as a teacher in the Pima Unified School District. He quickly rose through the ranks, becoming a principal and then assistant superintendent. In 1985, he was elected to the Pima City Council, where he served for 12 years, including two terms as mayor.

During his time on the council, Duncan was instrumental in many important initiatives, including the construction of the Pima Community Center, the expansion of the Pima Library, and the establishment of the Pima Sister City Program.

In addition to his work in government, Duncan was also active in a number of community organizations. He was a member of the Pima Rotary Club, the Pima Lions Club, and the Pima Chamber of Commerce. He also served on the board of directors of the Pima Hospital Foundation and the Pima Community College Foundation.

Duncan's commitment to community service extended beyond Pima. He was a strong advocate for education and healthcare, and he worked tirelessly to improve the lives of all Arizonans. He served on the Arizona State Board of Education and the Arizona Health Care Cost Containment System Board. He was also a founding member of the Arizona Community Foundation.

Duncan's legacy is one of leadership, service, and community. He was a true champion for Pima, and his impact will be felt for generations to come. He will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and the entire Pima community.
